The above photo shows the Lower Emerald Pool in Zion National Park, Utah -- it was taken in June of 1999. The large boulders, composed largely of red banded sandstone, fell from the caprock above the waterfall. An easy trail makes hiking to the Emerald Pools one of the most popular activities in Zion. Though the larger pools get a lot of attention from tourists during the summer season, the smaller pools, further along the trail, are still rather secluded.
