The above photo shows the splendor and serenity of San Francisco Bay at sunrise on a winter's morn. When the Sun is close to the horizon, whether at sunrise or sunset, and if aerosols are present in the lower atmosphere, the sky can quickly turn a brilliant red or orange. This is especially true if high or mid-level clouds are overhead.
