Crepuscular Rays at Sunrise
November 15, 2003
The above photo showing crepuscular rays was taken at sunrise over the foothills of the North Cascades in Skagit County, Washington State. The Sun is casting the foothill's shadows into the sky. Peaks, which block sunlight, produce the dark slots, and valleys or troughs create the brighter streets. Even though the rays are parallel, they appear to converge in the distance -- like the two rails of a railroad track.
