This picture was taken on August 27, 2003 from the magnificent Saguenay River, near Chicoutimi, Québec, Canada. The light of the town reflects off the calm waters of the Saguenay at the same moment that Mars is rising -- just between the towers of the Chicoutimi cathedral. A magic moment! Mars was at opposition on this date. See also the Earth Science Picture of the Day for August 27 and August 28, 2003.
