The above photo was captured in early November as an afternoon storm gathered strength just to the north of where I live in Wilmington, North Carolina. I noticed that the clouds were moving rapidly and saw a curious ring formation start to develop. I grabbed my camera and snapped this picture. A moment later, like a puff of smoke dissolving before your eyes, the ring was gone. Although severe weather was reported nearby, apparently no funnel clouds were observed during the storm.
