The above photo was captured over Vosges, France on January 23, 2004. This crystal clear evening featured the crescent Moon, shown here about 1 hour after sunset in the southwestern sky. Though difficult to see on this picture, Venus is visible a little to the right and above the Moon. See tomorrow's Earth Science Picture of the Day for a different view of this pairing.
