Rose-colored fingers of the coming dawn stretch across a still darkened sky. The above photo of these captivating crepuscular rays was shot near Pala, California, along side of CA freeway 115, at 6:53 a.m. (local time) on the morning of February 21, 2004. It was one of those fortuitous moments when a camera was at hand at the same time a glorious sunrise was occurring. These rays are caused by non uniform clouds, just below the horizon, which are blocking part of the sunlight. The apparent fanning out or diverging of the rays is a matter of perspective -- they're actually parallel.
