The photo above was taken this past January from Novo Hamburgo, Brazil (in the state of Rio Grande do Sul --the southern-most state of Brazil) and shows a daunting shaft of heavy rain, pouring down on the city. Although the scene appears very dark, it was just past 4:00 p.m. local time, with still plenty of daylight remaining. January is mid summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and tropical deluges are not uncommon this time of the year in Brazil. Though the sky looks ominous, no severe weather was reported.
