The above image was captured from the SeaWiFS sensor aboard the Orb View satellite and shows Typhoon Namtheun off the southeast coast of Japan on July 28, 2004. Maximum sustained winds were 80 knots (gusts to 100 knots), making Namtheun a category 1 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. At it's present strength, if landfall is made, damage would occur primarily to unanchored homes, shrubbery, and trees. Current forecasts have this formidable storm dissipating over open water.
