This sublime sunset photo was taken in August of 2003 from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Sun is seen caressing the horizon and will soon set over a tranquil Lake Superior. The longer path length of sunlight when the Sun is closer to the horizon is primarily responsible for the fine sky coloring. To the left are the Porcupine Mountains, which were formed from volcanism about 1.1 billion years ago. See the links below showing more sunset photos.
