This beautiful view greeted members of the BBC's Sky at Night Star Party on the evening of March 11, 2005. As the clouds broke, a thin crescent Moon was seen from West Beach, Selsey in the U.K. The star like object to the upper right of the Moon is the elusive twilight planet Mercury. Note the earthshine. This is the darkend but still visible portion of the lunar disk, which is dimly illuminated by sunlight reflected from the Earth's surface and clouds.
