This photo of the Grand Canyon and Kaibab Plateau in Arizona was taken in May of 2004, using a simple 4.0 megapixel Canon A80 camera, from the window seat of a small commuter craft travelling west from Kansas City to Los Angeles. The colors were enhanced by my computer and clearly show the distinct layering and carving of the Canyon. Schist at the bottom of the Grand Canyon is over 1 billion years old, while the upper sedimentary rock layers are millions of years younger.
