With the wide open skies around Dallas and Ft. Worth, Texas, approaching thunderstorms can be quite spectacular. We ended up driving through the building storm pictured above (photographed on March 21, 2005), but torrential rain brought the traffic on the freeway to a standstill. At one point, the Sun was fully out, and the resulting "shininess" of the rain was blinding. Thunderstorm views are generally most impressive when cumulonimbus clouds are back-lit by the Sun.
