The inviting sunset above was taken on September 22, 2005 from near Kenwood, California. Sun-tipped altocumulus clouds, in the foreground (top), above a layer cake of crimson, gold and muave created this delicious equinox sunset. Near the horizon, the longer path length of sunlight through the lower atmosphere results in the reddened coloration. Most of the shorter wavelength colors (blues, greens and yellows) have been scattered out of the observer's line of sight.
