This photo was captured from a helicopter above an active vent on the slopes of Kilauea on the big island of Hawaii. Red hot lava can be seen near the top of the vent. Kilauea has been erupting almost continuously since 1983. On average, Kilauea spits out several hundred thousand cubic yards of lava each day! Photo taken on October 5, 2005.
