I'm fortunate to be able see green flashes quite often here in the San Francisco area. Thanks to the cold ocean water and rather stable lower atmosphere, conditions are generally excellent for detecting the green flash along coastal California. The sequence above was photographed on February 6, 2006. Note that in the last frames you can see the erect and inverted images of the Sun's upper limb gradually starting to disappear, below the very flat, thin image of the entire solar disk -- it's compressed into a line just at the top of the inversion layer. Thanks to Andy Young for his comments.
