On March 20, 2006, Tropical Cyclone Larry tore through the township of Innisfail, North Queensland, Australia and surrounding districts. The photograph above illustrates the awesome power of the winds experienced during a cyclone of this magnitude. A bamboo pole has been neatly sliced though by an airborne sheet of corrugated iron. The left side of the image shows the in-situ pole with the cut about 8' (2.4m) above the ground. Larry was a category 5 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Scale -- one of the most fierce to ever hit this region of Australia.
