This chartreuse aurora was captured over Orsta, Norway on March 6, 2006. The northern sky suddenly turned green and the snow covered mountains in the foreground were illuminated by the quarter-Moon through a patchy layer of thin clouds. Unfortunately, this magical scene lasted but for 10 minutes in the Orsta area. Though we're still near the minimum in the 11-year solar cycle, as evidenced by the dearth of sunspots, auroras can still be observed on occasion.
