The above photo shows how the total solar eclipse of March 29 appeared in northeastern Brazil, near the city of Barra do Tabatinga, Brazil. At this location, the eclipse occurred soon after sunrise (5:36 a.m. local time) -- the Sun was just 2 degrees above the horizon. Barra do Tabatinga was approximatley 10 km (6 miles) north of the central path of the totality. On the left-hand side of the picture, brighter skies can be observed -- this area was outside of the Moon´s shadow.
