The brilliant, blue-white bolts pictured above lit up the St. Lawrence River (Cap-Rouge marina) in Quebec City, Canada, during the early morning hours of July 17, 2006. These bolts follow an irregular ionized path, referred to as a lightning channel, along which the lightning discharge occurs.
