Rainbow Over Springfield, Colorado
November 06, 2006
This brilliant horizon-to-horizon rainbow, with its secondary bow, occurred on May 31, 2006 near Springfield, Colorado. The photo was taken on the back side of a malformed squall line. A distant cloud-to-ground lightning flash accents the bow's right quadrant and appears to emanate from the darkened band between the primary and secondary bow (Alexander's Dark Band). The photographer's shadow points toward the center of the rainbow -- the antisolar direction.
