The gorgeous photo above showing a vineyard in the afterglow of day was captured in northern California in early fall. During the daytime, the vineyards are bight yellow in October, but as the Sun sets, they can take on reddish hues. In the presence of clouds or aerosols (dust and salt particles for instance), the increased path length of light when the Sun's close to the horizon may result in rich twilight colors. That was the case over the vineyard on this evening, where the gray vapor clinging to the valley floor and the burgundy shades of the mid and high level clouds produced this memorable canvas; the kind of scene that makes one reflect on the bounty or the adversity of the past year. Hope your 2006 was a year of abundance, and all the best in the New Year!
