Solar Activity, Sunset and Green Flash

The photo montage above showing the Sun in several different fascinating shots was taken on December 28, 2006, from San Francisco, California. On this clear, winter's afternoon, a round filament could be detected (insert #1) as well as an impressive solar prominence (insert #2). An image of the Earth is included in this insert for size comparison.
Later in the day, I was fortunate enough to view a gorgeous sunset where both a mock mirage and inferior mirage were seen (not shown). As the Sun reached the horizon, its shape was more and more distorted (inserts #3 and #4). The grand finale was a beautiful green flash -- shown on the larger image (lower center).
