February Rainbow Fragment

This photo of a comely rainbow fragment was taken from Merida, Spain, an hour before sunset, on February 16, 2007. The bow appeared only briefly, but the spectrum of colors spread out on the eastern horizon was quite mesmerizing. Larger raindrops typically result in the most colorful rainbows. With smaller drops colors tend to overlap due to greater wave interference.
