On a crisp evening this past April in northwestern Nevada, looking out over Lake Tahoe, I noticed these compelling mammatus (also known as mamma) clouds. See yesterday's Earth Science Picture of the Day. This striking sunset scene also features a faint crepuscular ray -- sunlight is blocked by the cumulonimbus turret on the far side of the Lake (lower center).
