The photo above showing an unusually bright and strong solar corona was taken from Barsinghausen, Germany. Notice that the multiple rings composing the aureole are clearly visible. If similar-sized cloud droplets fill the sky around the Sun, brightly colored rings, such as these, can be observed. Be sure to use caution when observing or photographing the portion of the sky near the solar disk. See also yesterday's Earth Science Picture of the Day.
