The above photo showing a tangerine colored Sun pillar was captured at 6:45 a.m. (Eastern Daylight Savings Time) on March 27, 2007. As I entered Interstate 95 in Delaware from Rt. 896, heading north, it was still quite dark, but when I topped a crest in the highway, I was greeted by this spirited pillar. Pillars result from the reflection of sunlight off of the underside of oriented, plate-shaped ice crystals.
