The photo above showing a powerful, horizontal lightning bolt was taken over southern Germany on May 13, 2007 at 23:55 Universal Time (UT). Coming from the south, this brief but electrically intense thunderstorm moved directly over my location near the town of Heilbronn. There were many lightning strikes over the entire southern sky, but most of them were hidden by low cloud cover. Rain showers reached me a few minutes later, and 10 minutes after the rain arrived, the sky was starry.
