Goodbye chlorophyll (green). Hello carotene (yellow, orange, red), xanthophyll (yellow), flavonol (yellow), and anthrocyanin (red). Some of the colors of fall seen in Maine are reflected in a six inch (15 cm) mirror that was hand-ground and polished. The mirror will remain un-silvered. In this condition, it'll be very appropriate for collecting light in a Dobsonian type solar telescope. The tree featured above is a sugar maple. Photo taken from Falmouth, Maine on October 21, 2007 -- the peak colors arrived late this year in the Northeast.
