This marvelous gold and tangerine sunset was photographed from St. Andrews, Scotland on August 24, 2007. Lenticular clouds (altocumulus lenticularis) accent the strong sunset colors. These lens shaped wave clouds typically form as relatively stable air flows over elevated terrain. Thus, they're frequently seen on the lee side of mountain ranges, occasionally remaining nearly stationary for hours at a time.
