The photo above showing wavy cirrus clouds gathered over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California was taken on October 6, 2007. Cirroform clouds form at high altitudes, typically above 5 km (about 3 miles). They are composed of small, hexagonal ice crystals. Cirrus clouds are the only clouds capable of producing halos and their kin.
