This enticing moonrise was photographed near Sparta, Greece on October 27, 2007. There was little austere or Spartan about this huge Hunter’s Moon, which looms behind Mount Parnon. Though low clouds tried to diminish this beautiful vision, they only added to its allure. Greece was evidently the ideal location for viewing the Moon during this past fall -- see also the Earth Science Picture of the Day for November 23 and December 22, 2007.
Photo details: Dobsonian 12’’ telescope, Canon EOS 350D camera, ISO 400, shutter speed of 0.6 seconds.
