The enchanting photo above showing a profusion of rays penetrating a stand of firs was captured at Lincoln Park in San Francisco, California. These sunbeams are local examples of crepuscular rays. The shadows between the rays result from tree limbs blocking the sunlight. The light getting through is scattered, and therefore made visible, by the fog droplets. Photo taken on March 3, 2006.
