As I ventured out to retrieve my morning paper, here in Germantown, North Carolina, I couldn’t help but notice the splendid, pre-dawn, winter sky. There’s even a faint expression of a sun pillar. The increased path length of light when the Sun's close to the horizon, on occasion, results in rich gold, orange and red colors. A lone deciduous tree accents this sumptuous scene. If you look closely, you may be able to detect the waning crescent Moon, three days before new, just above and to the right of the tree. Photo taken on February 3, 2008.
