The photo above shows a potion of a rainbow shimmering below the rim of the Grand Canyon, near Point Imperial in northern Arizona. A virga, a rain shower that evaporates before it hits the ground, and the Sun on the opposite horizon produced this unobtrusive rainbow. Smoke from controlled forest fire burns as well as pollution from the Navajo Electric Coal Plant at Page, Arizona, give the scene a hazy look. Photo taken on September 15, 2007.
