In the Massif Central, a volcanic region near the center of France, you can see this field of stones locally called Clapas de Thubiès. Clapas is an Occitan word meaning scree. All of the stones are approximately the same size: 16-20 in wide (about 40 to 50 cm). This stone field is located near the small village Saint-Côme d'Olt which can be seen in the distance in this view taken from a few yards from Roquelaure Castle which stands above the Lot river valley in Aveyron. Photo taken on August 6, 2007.
