Crescent Moon and Poseidon
October 11, 2008
The photo above shows the cloud streaked crescent Moon and the Temple of Poseidon, at Sounio, Greece, on June 7, 2008. The temple and lunar disk seem to have nearly the identical brightness. Note that the "Moon Illusion" holds for the crescent Moon as well as the full Moon. Celestial objects such as the Sun, Moon, comets, and constellations appear larger when near the horizon than high overhead.
