The photo above showing Minaret Summit in the Sierra Nevada Mountains above Mammoth, California was taken just as the Sun peeked out from behind the clouds one day early in June 2008. This range was carved into its current shape by glaciers during the last ice age. However, because the highest peaks remained slightly above the ice mass, they have a notable, jagged toothed appearance. This scenic area is quite popular with hikers and climbers.
