This impressive lightning bolt occurred behind a bridge on the Fox River near McHenry, Illinois. The powerful spring thunderstorm producing this attention-getting discharge lasted for over an hour. Glitter paths on the surface of the water are visible from both the lightning strike and the street lights flanking the river. Note, though, that the glitter path for the lightning does not reflect its jagged appearance. Photo taken on May 26, 2008.
