The photo above showing a creamy full Moon rising above an ancient acropolis was taken near Alexandroúpolis, Greece on January 10, 2009. This age-weary castle dates from the 13th century, from the Byzantine period. At one time a zinc and lead mine was located in proximity to the castle, and a little to the northwest (near Mesimvria) a seam of gold is still worked.
