Glacial Erosion in Sierra de Urbión
June 09, 2010
The photo sequence above shows the work of glaciers in the Sierra de Urbión near Soria, Spain. Glacial moraines containing melting snow and ice formed a large lagoon known as Laguna Negra (Black Lagoon). Note the huge boulders that were displaced by the ice (upper right). This area was last glaciated during the Quaternary Period -- no glacial ice remains today. Photo taken on May 1, 2010.
