The panoramic image above shows the Milky Way as observed from Vila Boim, Alentejo, Portugal, about 120 miles (200 km) from Lisbon, on the night of July 22, 2010. It was taken in a field of olive trees approximately 30 minutes prior to the beginning of astronomical twilight (morning twilight). Note that the arc of the Milky Way is clearly visible from the constellation of Cassiopeia (at far right) to the constellation Aquila (at far left). The bright star at left center is Vega in the constellation Lyra.
