Clingman's Dome Panorama
December 11, 2010
The image above shows a portion of a 360 degree panoramic view from the Clingman's Dome observation tower in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee (click on the photo to see the entire pnaorama). It was stitched from 17 individual photos taken from all around the tower. Clingman's Dome, at 6,643 ft (2,025 m), is the third highest point in the continental U.S., east of the Mississippi River. The air on this mid-autumn day (November 9, 2010) was the clearest I've ever seen in the Smokies. A cold front had just passed, cleansing the sky, and visibility was upwards of 150 mi (240 km)!
