The photo above showing the Sun emerging through a layer of fog and haze was taken at Vravrona, Greece. Although the sky was cloudless this winter’s morning, the brightness of the solar disk was greatly attenuated by the fog – it looked similar to a full Moon. Even a thin layer of fog, a few meters in thickness, will noticeably dim the Sun. Nonetheless, be careful to protect your eyes when looking towards it. Note the Sun’s glitter path on the surface of the sea. Photo taken on February 5, 2011 at 6:42 a.m.
