The state of Arizona is home to many peculiar and astonishing geological formations. Those seen above aren't the pedal extremities of some prehistoric, petrified pachyderm. Rather, the two pillars are the remains of eroded, Middle Jurassic Entrada Sandstone. The feet stand near the town of Tonalea just off Highway 160 in Coconino County.

Krazykat and elephant feetThe feet, along with other real and imagined locales and inhabitants of Coconino County, were prominently featured in George Herriman’s bizarre and eccentric comic strip “Krazy Kat” from 1913 to 1944. Photo taken October 12, 2012.
