Summary AuthorMargaret Watson

The photo above shows some of the bizarre sandstone formations found at Bolnuevo Beach, on the Mediterranean Sea, near Mazarron, Spain. For thousands of years, wind and waves have dramatically carved these soft sandstone rocks. The hardest, most resistant, rock layers are what remain today of a previously extensive coastal cliff. The towers featured here are several meters high. Along this section of Spain's Mediterranean coast there are more than 20 mi (32 km) of unspoiled beaches and coves. Photo taken on April 26, 2013.
