Aurora Borealis from Alaska

The spectacular auroras featured above were observed from Chena Hot Springs, Alaska, in late March of 2014. Auroras were quite energetic this late winter in the high latitudes. The Kp index was at 3 to 4 (highly active) for most nights. I co-lead this year's annual aurora tour and photo workshop, held in Fairbanks. We were indeed fortunate to have 10 clear nights in a row. The northern lights were visible every night we were there.
