Crater Lake in southwestern Oregon boasts the title of the deepest lake in the U. S. At 1,943 ft (592 m) it's also ranked the 9th deepest lake in the world. This lake was formed due to a massive eruption of Mount Mazama over 7,700 years ago. The caldera resulting from the eruption eventually filled with rain and melting snow, forming what is now known as Crater Lake. Photo taken on June 1, 2014.
