Clouds With Crepuscular Rays Above ~ Shelbyville KY ~ 101814sm

Summary Authors: Carl Crumley; Jim Foster

While vacationing in Kentucky with my family this past autumn, one morning near sunrise I noticed streaks of light extending across an overcast sky. The streaks are crepuscular rays stretching out above the cloud layer and result from gaps in clouds on the eastern horizon; darker shadow lanes occur when sunlight is blocked by clouds. Note that all of the rays converge in the direction of where the Sun will soon rise. Photo taken on October 18, 2014.
