The photo above shows a fog-enshrouded valley on Corfu Island, Greece. It was taken from a nearby mountainside during the early morning of December 16, 2014. Valley or radiation fog forms on clear nights when cooler, denser air drains into low-lying areas. If this chilled air reaches the dew point temperature it'll condense into a layer of tiny cloud droplets. The tops of cork, fig and olive trees can be seen here poking through the fog. In the background (top of photo) is the Ionian Sea.
